January Newsletter

Welcome back all for this Spring 10 semester. The spring is deffinitely an exciting time as we all face new classes and professors, decisions on what to do for spring break and summer, and wait and wonder when the snow will start melting/how much longer will be able to ski, snowboard, and sled (i didn't add snowball fight because I don't think we've had good snow for that yet!)

As you get settled back into your room, catch up with friends, and spend all your money on the new books you might be wondering what this semester will bring. Tyring to list the most important things comming up:

-Carreer fair. Start thinking about your summer now! February 4th will bring a lot of compaines to schine looking for eager students that have the confidence to give out their resume and give a good first impression. Dress to impress and if you don't have an orangelink account yet seriously consider it at: https://syr-csm.symplicity.com/students/
Activate your OrangeLink account! If you have not done so already, activate your OrangeLink account so that you can search and apply for jobs and internships

-Housing Reservation Process:  Do you know where you are living next year?  To learn more about "how" to reserve your room for next academic year, attend one of the info sessions:

  -February
15th Housing Reservation Process Road Show (presentation) Boland Hall main lounge 6 p.m.
16th Housing Reservation Process Road Show (presentation) Flint Hall main lounge 6 p.m.
17th Housing Reservation Process Road Show (presentation) Ernie Davis Hall main lounge 6 p.m.
18th Housing Reservation Process Road Show (presentation) Lawrinson Hall penthouse 6 p.m.

All information is at: http://housingmealplans.syr.edu/housingcalendar.cfm
It's convenient to start planning where and who you'd like to live with next year.
Ernie Davis Hall has revolutionized everything.  The new gym, dining hall and bookstore are very convenient for people living in Booth, Dellplain, and Watson.  More people will be willing to live in these halls now that the walk to get food isn't so terrible!  While it will probably get easy to live in one of those nice 4 person suites in Haven Hall, even though you will have to suffer a little more to go get your food.
As far as renovations go.  Lawrinson Hall is scheduled to renovate floors 9 through 15!   This will give a lot more people the opportunity to enjoy the individual showers and big screens in the lounges.  The floors available will be 3-8 for coed BY floors, 9-17 for renovated coed floors, and then 18 will be the LBTA living community, 19 the multicultural living floor, and 20 the Life floor.
Any room up on mount Olympus will be surrounded by the new freshman, so consider that before you select your room!

-Spring Break will be from March 13th (saturday) to March 21st (sunday).  Many options are available, you just have to look around and find what you want to do!
For example, the recreationservices.syr.edu have a planned trip to Costa Rica:   http://students.syr.edu/recreation/Programs/outdoored/flyers/Spring%20Break%20in%20Costa%20Rica.pdf

Remember to talk with your RA!  They should know the answer...or at least know how to get the answer :D
